Star Princess-Heading Home

Nov 24: We didn’t have to get up too early but we woke up anyway. Sadly, I made a huge blunder and packed my black slacks that I was to wear today. Thankfully John has a pair of exercise pants I can wear or I would be wearing a pair of gray leopard PJ bottoms with my new black top!!!  ACK! We are not disembarking until 10:30am so we had time to go to the dinning room for the first time for breakfast. We did go there a few times for lunch during the cruise. After breakfast we headed back to our cabins to get our tote bags or backpacks that we will carry off ourselves. We arrived to our departure point in the Explorer Lounge early and when I asked they said everyone is being called to disembark right now so we walked off even earlier than scheduled. After the slow, crowded walk off the ship it was time to locate our luggage. That went fairly fast as well. At that point we decided to get a porter for the 5 of us. We had the 5 suitcases (even though they are mostly small ones), 5 totes or heavy backpacks, and a few assorted bags. It was just easier to get a porter who would take all our things and go with us through customs and also find us a taxi.  He said he would find us a van taxi for 5. However, when it came down to it, he could not so we had to take 2 taxis to the Ferry building. Now we have a couple hour wait before the arrival of our Amtrak bus that will take us to the train in Emeryville. Since it is one of the most beautiful days we have ever seen in San Francisco we took up residence at the outside dining area of the Market Bar. I found a restroom and changed into the slacks I retrieved from my suitcase. We can see the bus stop from our seats. First we just had a cold drink and the kids had fries, then a little bit later we had lunch so we would not have to eat lunch on the train. They had delicious clam chowder lunch at the Market Bar. It was called something like the “beggars banquet” and had the huge bowl of soup, a large chunk of cheese, bread and a small much of grapes. All of that was more than enough to fill up the adults. Julianne had fish and chips and Jason had a burger. Soon enough our bus came along. It did seem a bit confusing as there is just one Amtrak agent to scan tickets and control people who are waiting for multiple buses going in different directions. Quite quickly we were on the bus for Emeryville, when we arrived the train had not arrived yet but it showed up in a few minutes and we were then bound for home. A leisurely end to a lovely vacation!

Star Princess-Day 10

Nov 23, Sunday: How sad we are to know this is our last full day. The kids are seeming tired and maybe a little bored as well since Princess doesn’t have a lot for them to do.  I guess they have had enough burgers, French fries, pizza, and ice cream to last for awhile! June and I went to a cooking demo in the theater that was pretty fun because one of the head chef’s had quite a good sense of humor. At dinner they had the Baked Alaska parade but the location of our table was not conducive to getting a decent photo of it. I might at that we do have a very nice table just the five of us right my a window, table 178. Of course we spent part of the day packing our things and making sure they were outside our door at the appointed time.

Star Princess-Day 9

Nov 22, Saturday: We slept in even though we turned the clocks back one hour last night. At least I could get on the internet and see email today again. There was another art auction, which we went to. There really isn’t a lot to do today. The weather has cooled down remarkably. Tonight is our last formal night and also the Captain’s Circle party for Platinum members (us) before dinner.b We adults were really tired after dinner and skipped the show, I think it was opera anyway. The kids went back out after changing from the formal clothing, I believe they went to a movie. It’s sad to know that tomorrow is the last full day of the cruise.

Star Princess-Day 8

Nov 21, Friday: My birthday was really nice. After breakfast we went to an ice carving but it really was crowded and we didn’t see much. We went to the dinning room for lunch then an art auction and a show after dinner. We barely saw the kids except for dinner where June and Jason gave me gifts and we had a little chocolate cake along with the other regular desserts. I’m feeling very happy and blessed today!

Star Princess-Day 7-Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Nov 20, Thursday: We arrived to Puerto Vallarta at noon, just as planned. Waited for our tour to a nearby Hacienda for tequila tasting, lunch, and entertainment. It took about a half hour to get to the Hacienda, which was pretty nice. First we toured the tequila factory and had some tastes. They had some peach tequila that was very tasty. We all bought some tequila and then headed out to the tables set up to have our lunch. It was tasty and then followed by a few gimmicks like tortilla making contest that John participated in, and won!  After that we had a nice little show with dancers in costume. The bus headed back to town. We were all tired and wished we could just go back to the ship but instead it was a drive into the city of Puerto Vallarta. They were going to take a 7-8 block walk to see the sites, things we have seen before and the kids were not interested.  Therefore, we waited on the bus and then headed back to the ship. I went and tried to get on the internet again with no success. We were too late for the dinner hour so John and June went to dinner at the buffet while I tried the internet and Jason and Julie to the movie. I then met John and June at the show for tonight. On the way back toward our cabins I tried the internet again with no success.  However, I was able to get on Skype on my phone and got a call through to Mom to find out she was doing well. It was a fun day but we are tired now and off to bed.

Star Princess-Day 6-LaPaz, Mexico

Nov 19, Wednesday: I had to completely give up on the internet today. I never could look at my email. We decided we would get off and take the shuttle into town, which is about 25-30 minutes away. We are docked at a pier today. It looks like a working pier with some sort of concrete distributor or something. Near by there is another pier that had the Baja Ferries ship in port. I’ll have to see where that goes when I have a chance to Google it. Anyway, we got off the ship and found the line for the shuttle, which was very long. We browsed the tent shops that were set up in the port and Julie bought a few things as we waited for the line to lessen, but it never did. We nixed the idea of going into the town and just got back onboard. We had only 4-5 hours in port anyway. Apparently someone didn’t make it back on board as they kept calling a couple of passengers names even after we left port. The comedy show after dinner was pretty good. After setting our clocks ahead another hour we went to bed looking forward to our stop in Puerto Vallarta tomorrow.

Fun in La Paz Port

Star Princess-Day 5-Loreto, Mexico

Nov 18, Tuesday: Lovely Loreto! The Sea of Cortez is much narrower than I thought it would be. Where the ship is anchored there is a lovely view of low but rugged mountains all around. After breakfast John wasn’t feeling great so he read in the cabin while June, the kids and I went by tender into the port and took a quick taxi ride into the downtown area. The kids enjoyed a little shopping and we the did reverse back to the ship. It was a sunny and beautiful day. John was feeling better and had eaten a burger from room service by the time we got back. We had a little bit of a late lunch and then we all watched a movie in the theater called “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” The kids played ping-pong part of the day and actually took a nap! From there we went to an art talk and by the time that was done it was almost time for dinner! There was no show tonight but instead another movie in the theater so we watched Maleficent this time. This day went by fast and the cruise is going by even faster!
